Limerick’s young musicians are set to join forces with the Worcestershire Youth Orchestra for a special performance. The Worcestershire Youth Orchestra has extended an invitation to the Limerick School of Music to showcase their talent in a unique concert at St Martins Church, Worcester, on Saturday, February 10, from 3 to 5 pm.
As part of their brief tour of Worcestershire and Warwickshire, the Limerick School of Music’s Senior Orchestra and Guitar Ensemble will enchant the audience. Traveling from Ireland for a short stay in the UK, they will first grace Worcester’s stage before heading to Stratford-upon-Avon to collaborate with the Coventry & Warwickshire Youth Orchestra.
Ian Hattersley, Severn Arts Music Leader, expressed excitement about the upcoming concert, stating, “All of us at Worcestershire Youth Orchestra are eagerly anticipating our performance with the Limerick School of Music Senior Orchestra. With over 80 young musicians participating, it promises to be an exhilarating and memorable event! I am particularly looking forward to the moment when both groups unite to perform an arrangement of Bernstein’s ‘Mambo’ to conclude the concert.”
Renowned as the largest provider of music education in the Mid-West Region, the Limerick School of Music’s Orchestra has graced prestigious stages across Ireland, including the National Concert Hall Dublin, City Hall Cork, and UCH Limerick. Anna Jane Ryan, Deputy Principal of Limerick School of Music, conveyed the orchestra members’ enthusiasm for the collaboration, expressing hope for a return visit by the Worcestershire Youth Orchestra to Limerick in the near future.
The concert program is set to feature musical pieces from “How To Train Your Dragon” alongside Sibelius’s “Finlandia” and more. Richard Jenkinson will conduct the Worcestershire Youth Orchestra, while Anna Jane Ryan will lead the Limerick School of Music Senior Orchestra, and John O’Shea will direct the Guitar Ensemble.
