The Periodicals
The Swan Theatre, Worcester – Tuesday 20 until Thursday 22 February
The young and talented actors from Worcester Theatres’ Young Rep are once again in the rehearsal room, preparing to present their upcoming performance, “The Periodicals”, at the Swan Theatre this February. Penned by Siân Owen for this year’s NT Connections Youth Theatre festival, “The Periodicals” unfolds in a dystopian near-future where Education Authorities aggressively pursue eradicating school absences. In this bleak setting, a determined group of young individuals rebels against the system. Branded as ‘ghosts’, ‘devils’, and ‘anarchists’, they survive as techno-savvy outcasts in a landfill, fighting to evade capture.
The NT Connections festival, overseen by the National Theatre, offers thousands of young performers the opportunity to showcase their talent in theatres nationwide with a curated selection of ten new plays. This marks Worcester Theatres’ Young Rep’s third consecutive participation in the festival, and they are enthusiastic about bringing the provocative and impactful “The Periodicals” to the stage at the Swan Theatre.Worcester Theatres’ Creative Producer and Young Rep Artistic Director, Owen Harper said “The Periodicals is a witty and fast-paced dystopian exploration of the lives of young people post-Covid 19. With themes around political unrest, neurodivergent behaviour and control, the Young REP are very excited to bring this Mad Max-esqe world to life. I feel very privileged to be working with our incredibly talented Young Rep once again; their dedication to this performance has been inspiring, and I know the end result will be meaningful and captivating.”
We hope you will show your support for Worcester’s talented young performers, who represent the future of theatre and the arts. This dramatic and exciting story, The Periodicals, will be performed at the Swan Theatre from Tuesday 20 until Thursday 22 February, with performances at 7.30pm. Good luck to the Young Rep!
