Worcester Music Festival has announced its support for a local charity, the Herefordshire and Worcestershire MND Association, during this year’s event, scheduled for Friday 13th to Sunday 15th September.
Held annually across 20 diverse venues in Worcester’s bustling city centre, the festival attracts over 200 talented artists who entertain thousands of attendees while also backing local causes. Choosing this year’s charity proved challenging for the festival committee, but the impactful work of the H&W MND Association deeply resonated with our dedicated team of volunteers.
The Hereford & Worcester MND Association, managed entirely by volunteers, strives to offer the best possible support to local individuals with MND, their families, and caregivers. The group’s fundraising efforts provide grants for accessibility aids like stairlifts and mobility scooters, along with support for caregivers and family members.
Amanda Devlin, Regional Fundraiser at H&W MND Association, remarks:
“We here at the Herefordshire and Worcestershire MND Group are thrilled to be the chosen charity for the Worcester Music Festival. Motor Neurone Disease (MND) is a fatal rapidly progressing disease that affects the brain and spinal cord, attacking the nerves that control movement so muscles no longer work.”
“It kills a third of people within a year and more than half within two years of diagnosis. It’s a devastating disease that affects more than 5,000 adults in the UK at any one time and kills six people every day. There is no cure. With the support of the Worcester Music Festival, we can continue to help many local people living with and affected by Motor Neurone Disease, for which, we are extremely grateful.”
Ant Robbins, Director of Worcester Music Festival, expressed,
“Each year, our festival endeavours to extend support to our local communities where it’s needed most, so we’re delighted to be fundraising for H&W MND Association this year.”
“To help us make the biggest impact possible, we’re calling out for artists and musicians spanning every genre to perform at the festival. Every year, we are privileged to welcome hundreds of talented musicians who generously donate their time to champion and uphold the causes vital to our local area.”
Musicians are invited to apply to perform at the event through an online application form accessible via the festival’s website. A curated line-up is then meticulously chosen by local promoters, a thoughtful process that consistently attracts large crowds of both fans and passers-by.
The three-day annual festival has cemented its status as a beloved staple among music enthusiasts throughout the region, sparking intense competition among performers vying for a spot. Last year, over 200 performances electrified various venues across Worcester, including established music hubs, pubs, a tattoo studio, a barber shop, and the city’s esteemed art gallery and museum.
