Local charity Dancefest is aiming to raise £4,000 through the Big Give Christmas Challenge to provide dance opportunities for children, young people, and adults across Herefordshire and Worcestershire, as well as to expand its work with individuals with learning disabilities.

Dancefest, a Worcester-based charity, engages hundreds of participants each week in community classes, education programmes, and creative performances. Their mission is to ensure everyone can enjoy and experience dance, enhancing wellbeing, mobility, fitness, and mental health. This year, Dancefest has been selected to participate in the prestigious Big Give Christmas Challenge.

Projects that will benefit from donations made to Dancefest’s Big Give Christmas Challenge include classes for new parents at Worcester Community Trust with childcare provided, to aid fitness and mental health; affordable weekly dance classes for children and young people in Worcester; and Jigsaw Inclusive Dance classes for adults with Learning Disabilities in Worcester, Hereford and Malvern.

All donations made during the campaign will be matched by Dancefest’s Big Give Champion, The Reed Foundation, and The Bransford Trust. This means each pound donated will go twice as far, enabling Dancefest to support more individuals and expand its reach.

Kitty Ross, Director of Dancefest, said: “We rely on funding from various sources to ensure as many people as possible have the chance to take part in dance, supporting their fitness, creativity, and mental health. This is our first time participating in the Big Give, and we need to raise £2,000 to unlock the match fund and reach our £4,000 target. We hope everyone will give what they can to help us achieve this goal and allow us to continue the work we are so passionate about.”

You can contribute to Dancefest’s Big Give Christmas Challenge by donating online at BigGive.org between 3 and 10 December 2024. Dancefest is also hosting events during the campaign week, including a film premiere and a dance-and-technology masterclass.
