Music Spoken Here presents Wild Card
Thursday 3rd October, 8pm
The Marr’s Bar, 12 Pierpoint Street, Worcester WR1 1TA
London-based organ trio Wild Card have been described as “fearless, because this feverish ensemble isn’t afraid to bring on the funk, the bop, the pop, the swing or Afro-Blue when they want to” by Mike Jurkovic on AllAboutJazz.com.
Formed in 2011 by French guitarist Clement Regert, the trio have recorded six albums and played more than 200 shows around the world, featuring guest artists including Graeme Flowers, Rosie Turton, Emma Rawicz, Poppy Daniels, Maddy Coombs and former Music Spoken Here performers Paul Booth and Alex Hitchcock. They were last up this way at this year’s Cheltenham Jazz Festival, where they performed at The Bottle of Sauce.
For this performance, Regert is joined by Chris Bland on keys and Filippo Galli (Wild Card’s regular drummer Sophie Alloway – the “goddess of groove” – is unfortunately unavailable for this gig due to other touring commitments).
“A sound that exhorts the still-seated grouches of the world to get up and get that booty shaking!” – Bruce Lindsay, AllAboutJazz.com
“Their approach is the diametrical opposite of navel-gazing jazz” – Peter Jones in London Jazz News
“It’s creative, refreshing and jam packed with energy…hot and cool but definitely Jazz.” – Simon Redley, Music Republic Magazine
Doors open at 8pm, with support from DJ Steve ‘MooreFeJazz’ spinning dancefloor jazz, jazz-funk and fusion before and between the live sets. As with all Music Spoken Here gigs, admission is ticketless – just turn up and pay what you can on the door.
