Singer-songwriter, Emily Ewing returns to the fray following the release of her previous EP, Wild back in 2019 with a brand new three-track affair entitled Value Of Love.
Far from resting on her laurels since the aforementioned Wild, Emily has been busy collaborating with just about everyone from Nick Parker to Ryan Hamiltion via Manifest Brutality and Garrington T Jones to name but a few. All while still managing to find the time to write a host of new material and produce a series of intriguing conversations about music, writing and recording with fellow musician Caroline Hodge (that can be found on Soundcloud and Youtube).
Value Of Love has only been out since Tuesday and already both BBC Hereford & Worcester Introducing and Black Country Radio have featured the EP’s title track and it’s not difficult to hear why. Opening with a delicate piano melody, Emily’s beautiful lead vocal majestically oozes from the speaker, a voice that’s somehow manages to be both vulnerable and passionate simultaneously and sees Ewing grip at the listeners heartstrings from start to finish.
Following in the title track’s footsteps, is the equally mesmeric, Next In Line, again subtle production work (courtesy of Dave Draper) serves to frame Ewing’s gorgeous soulful tones and piano, while Caroline Hodge joins Emily in front of the mic to pepper the track with delicious harmonies as the duo produce a pop ballad masterclass.
Adding a final sparkle to proceedings, Gold, completes the EP with another pop jewel, Emily’s airy vocals dance on a melody of laidback electronics and keys that lull and seduce, suggesting that Ewing may indeed possess the midas touch.
Alongside the collaborations and studio session work, it’s fantastic, to once again hear Emily Ewing in her own right, here’s hoping she’ll take the lead reins again in the near future.
