Subslider are a trio hailing from Gloucestershire, since the band’s formation back in 1997 the band have been regulars on the local music scene, gaining support for their blend of high octane, alternative rock, culminating in a series of well received headline slots as well as high profile support slot with Dealer.
Rise Above is the band’s latest single, lifted from their recently released second album, Suffocate In Silence and should prove something of a hit with both long time admirers of the band and newcomers alike. Opening with a clash of hard hitting drums and striking electric riffs, the band soon settle into a tight, spiky groove, topped by the gravelly tones of the trio’s frontman as they motor towards the song’s contagious vocal pay-off. The ballsy rhythm section continues to drive the four and a quarter minute anthem, whilst we’re served up a hefty dose of squealing guitars and instant hooks, bringing to my mind, the power of Ricky Warwick’s pre Balck Star Riders band, The Almighty at their prime (and that is praise indeed).
If big, bolshy hook-laden, rock is your thing, I urge you to grab an earful of Rise Above and Subslider, you won’t be disappointed!
