Top UK horn section in 7-piece Latin lineup to play Worcester
TRYPL
Thursday 9th January 2025 – The Marrs Bar, Worcester
UK Latin band TRYPL will play Worcester for the first time as they open the 2025 program of fortnightly events hosted by Music Spoken Here at The Marr’s Bar.
TRYPL was formed by three top session musicians Trevor Mires (trombone), Ryan Quigley (trumpet) and Paul Booth (sax and flute) who have performed and recorded together over the years with many great salsa, boogaloo and merengue bands and individually with bands including Incognito, Jamiroquai, Steve Winwood, Quincy Jones, Aretha Franklin, Gregory Porter, Pat Metheny, Alicia Keys and Louis Cole.
Saxophonist Paul Booth, who appeared with Ryan Quigley on the Music Spoken Here program back in in November 2023 with one of his other bands ‘HOOP’, toured earlier that year with the Strictly Come Dancing – The Professionals show – an opportunity that saw him play nine different instruments throughout the tour!
TRYPL released their eponymous debut album of original Latin music on the Ubuntu label in 2020. The three-piece horn section will be accompanied by the brilliant pianist Will Barry (2017 winner of the Musician’s Company Young Jazz Musician award, in the company of other esteemed winners Tina May, Tim Garland, Laura Jurd, Daniel Casimir and Moses Boyd). This gig will also see the return to The Marr’s Bar of bassist Davide Mantovani (who performed at The Marr’s Bar with Tristan Banks Quartet in April 2023) along with Davide Giovannini (Down to the Bone, Snowboy & The Latin Section, Jocelyn Brown, Roy Ayers) on drums and Andres Ticino on percussion.
Music Spoken Here instigator Dave Fuller said “The Marr’s Bar has been our home for nearly three years and is a fantastic venue with a lot of character. It was once a dance studio and the owner has maintained the original mahogany sprung floor that was installed in the 1950s. I can’t think of a better place to put this band on, as they are sure to get you on your feet and dancing off the excesses of Christmas!” Entry is free for Music Spoken Here Club Members. Non-members are welcome and invited to pay what they can on the door. For more information go to the Music Spoken Here website.
