Worcester promoter Music Spoken Here kicks off their 2024 program of exceptional live music at The Marr’s Bar with an incredible jazz-rock group ‘FNUK’, featuring top UK musicians who have worked with some of the biggest names in pop, rock and jazz.

FNUK Band

Emerging out of the Bournemouth music scene in the late 2000s and pulled together by keyboard player Pete Case, FNUK is a group of friends who come together just a few times a year to perform their favourite jazz-rock tunes in small, intimate venues.

Joining Pete on keyboards is jazz legend Jason Rebello, who already had four solo albums under his belt before joining Sting’s band in 1998, following the death of Kenny Kirkland from the Blue Turtles line-up in November that year. For the next six years, Jason toured with Sting and recorded two studio albums (Brand New Day and Sacred Love) and …All This Time, recorded live (with a full concert DVD) at Sting’s villa in Italy on September 11th 2001, a day that went down in history for very different reasons.

In 2007, Jason joined Jeff Beck’s band in a line-up that included the incredible drummer Vinnie Colaiuta and the emerging Australian bassist Tal Wilkenfeld, only 21 at the time but voted “Most Exciting Bass Player, 2008” by Bass Player magazine. There’s a legendary full concert video of this band, recorded live at Ronnie Scott’s in London, available on YouTube. Jason toured with Jeff’s band for the next six years, recording the 2010 album Emotion & Commotion and co-writing four of the tracks on that album.

Also in 2007, Tal Wilkenfeld released her first solo album and jazz-rock feast Transformation. Her second, more mainstream, indie/rock album Love Remains, released in 2019, was produced, recorded and mixed by Paul Stacey, who also played keys and guitar on the album. It featured his twin brother Jeremy Stacey on drums. You’ll also find Jeremy behind the kit on albums as diverse as I’ve Been Expecting You (Robbie Williams), Detours (Sheryl Crowe), No Ordinary World (Joe Cocker), Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds and To The Bone (Steven Wilson, also co-produced by Paul). In 2016, Jeremy replaced Bill Rieflin (one of three drummers!) in Pershore-resident Robert Fripp’s band, King Crimson, and played their final Music Is Our Friend tour finishing in Japan in December 2021.

Both Stacey brothers have frequently worked with Jason Rebello over the last 30 years and join him again in the FNUK line-up, which is completed by Tim Fulker on sax and Pat Davey on bass. They will be playing their favourite jazz-rock tunes from the likes of Weather Report, Allan Holdsworth, Pat Metheny and Alex Han.
