BBC Introducing favourites, The Chewgs, are back with their 6th single, Over Your Shoulder. Opening with a catchy little folk strum, the equally catchy lyrics join in after a good 30 seconds, with a tale of online dating and first meetings. A happy little tune which plink plonks its way through that first swipe right, to saying goodbye and longing for an over the shoulder glance that will give hope for the second date. A harmonic narrative of hope and feelings.
The track bops happily along, with pretty little interludes in between choruses. A relatable track, in that we all need to be re-assured when meeting someone new. Listed as a studio based project, The Chewgs are quintessential easy listening. The simplicity of tune and lyrics make this track easy to learn and remember, which is a winning formula when you want to be listened to. Creating “ear worms” is not easy, yet this Worcestershire based duo have managed just that. This track doesn’t need layers and key changes, its steady beat and pretty little rhythm ties up the excitement and anticipation felt for the subject matter beautifully.
Simple yet effective, all you need to ease your ears. A loveable little track, it was recorded and produced by Jared Bryant at Severn Valley Studios and is available to stream now.
