Marking their 10th anniversary with a remastered vinyl release of their debut album ‘The Absent’ and a brand-new EP ‘Atomic’ in May this year, the Emily Francis Trio are set to bring their original, melodic and immersive ‘prog-jazz’ to The Marr’s Bar, Worcester for the first time, through the fortnightly program of progressive, contemporary improvised music presented by local promoter Music Spoken Here.
Led by keyboardist Emily Francis (fresh from touring with the Toyah Willcox and Robert Fripp band), the trio brings together jazz-fusion, prog-rock and electronica with influences as varied as FORQ, Porcupine Tree and Brad Mehldau. Joined by writing collaborator Trevor Boxall on bass and the incredible Jamie ‘Drum Cat’ Murray on drums, the band deliver a captivatingly intense performance of some incredibly infectious and memorable tunes.
Of their 2022 album ‘Luma’, Nick Hasted (Jazzwise Magazine) noted “Luma’s leap forward illustrates the ever-morphing status of the piano trio now […] a very 1980s prog iteration, all post-Vangelis synth-scapes, jazz-funk riffs and gated drums”.
The band will be supported by Stafford-based newcomer DJ Steve ‘Moore Fe Jazz’ spinning the latest dancefloor jazz, jazz funk, fusion and Latin before and between the live sets. Doors / DJ at 8pm, Emily Francis Trio at 8:30pm. Pay what you can on the door.
