Charlie Dore with Julian Littman
Malvern Cube, Worcestershire – Fri 5th May 2023 7:30PM
£12.00 + booking fee
Folk Music seems to mean different things to different people, it’s not fair to compare the likes of Bob Dylan to Fairport convention or James Taylor to Cornish folk hero Seth Lakeman, but they all seem to sit comfortably on the same rack in HMV or snuggle up together on Spotify playlists, but they all have qualities that set them aside, their commonalties seem to include a mastery of their chosen instruments and an ability to spin a visceral yarn that can transport the listener somewhere else. As you close your eyes and submerge yourself in the sounds you can sail away to a distant shore or listen to an epic tale of a free-spirited soul living their lives, often ending in tragedy. It’s great fun and especially needed during a cost-of-living crisis where £12 will afford you a pint of milk, a packet of space raiders and a bag of coal from the 24-hour garage – covering all the major food groups keeping you healthy…
However, thanks to the team at Malvern cube, £12 will now purchase you a ticket to see folk legend, Charlie Dore. Charlie’s songs have been recorded by the good and the great including George Harrison, Tina Turner, Celine Dion and Jimmy Nail to name but a few. The show will feature Charlie with long-time collaborator, the multi-instrumental singer/writer/actor Julian Littman (Steeleye Span).
As one of the UK’s most respected songwriters her own albums, described as ‘eclectic contemporary folk with crunchy lyrics’ continue to win awards both sides of the Atlantic, most recently Female Vocalist Of The Year (FATEA, 2020) and Best Lyrics (Like Animals ,US Indie Acoustic, 2021). Charlie has also played major festivals including Glastonbury, Celtic Connections, Cropredy, Shrewsbury Folk and Ventnor as well as appearing at some of the UK’s most prestigious venues including Kings Place and Liverpool Philharmonic.
Once again, Malvern Cube have grabbed themselves a show stopping artist so head to their website or box office to pick up a ticket before this event sells out.
