The Marr’s Bar, Worcester
Thursday 21st March, 2024
Doors 8pm, show starts 8:30pm
After an astounding show from Headquarters of Groove on Saturday, local promoter Music Spoken Here return to their series of regular fortnightly shows at The Marr’s Bar this Thursday, featuring young saxophonist and composer Nye Banfield and his quartet.
Nye grew up in rural Leicestershire, near Melton Mowbray and went to school in Grantham. He started playing violin at a very young age and switched to viola, playing classical music in orchestras. He added saxophone to his repertoire at 11 and continued to play both throughout his school years. He moved to London in 2015 and graduated from Trinity Laban Conservatoire in 2019. His debut LP ‘Trails And Traces‘, recorded in 2021, was self-released in January this year and received a 4-star review in the April edition of Jazzwise Magazine!
His writing rarely follows the traditional head-solo-head structure, but has lots of space for improvisation between written elements. This show will feature Banfield’s original compositions, which explore modal jazz, influenced by Wayne Shorter and Miles Davis, along with some interesting arrangements of familiar songs. The line-up for this show features brothers Robbie Moore on piano and Ewan Moore on drums, with Ben Crane (of Pygaen) on bass.
Music Spoken Here don’t do tickets – just show up on the night and pay what you can afford, cash or card, on the door. (Suggested contribution £10-15). Alternatively, you can become a Club Member and get free entry to all Music Spoken Here events at The Marr’s Bar!
