Music Spoken Here presents Secret Night Gang
The Marr’s Bar, 12 Pierpoint Street, Worcester WR1 1TA
Thursday 30th May, 8pm doors / 8:30pm start
On Thursday 30th May, local promoter Music Spoken Here celebrates two years at The Marr’s Bar, which has seen some of the most exciting players from the UK jazz, funk & fusion scene come and play in Worcester for the first time.
The occasion will be marked with an exclusive performance from Manchester’s urban soul/jazz sensation Secret Night Gang. Formed by saxophonist Callum Connell and vocalist Kemani Anderson, this 7-piece collective were signed to Gilles Peterson’s Brownswood label in 2021 and released their second album ‘Belongs on a Place Called Earth’ last year.
“We describe our sound as limitless; it’s not set in one genre but pays homage to our favourite music and musicians,” says Kemani Anderson.
“We write open-ended tunes to allow the listener to find themselves in the music. But most of all, it’s not music to think to – it’s music to dance to,” adds Callum Connell.
They have played at We Out Here, Cross The Tracks, Love Supreme, Brick Lane Jazz and Manchester Jazz festivals and will be playing two shows at Ronnie Scott’s in London next month.
Admission for all Music Spoken Here events at The Marr’s Bar is ‘pay what you can’ on the door. However, as this is expected to be particularly popular, the promoter recommends registering on their event website if you intend to come along, so they can manage capacity and staff accordingly.
