The Earnest Spears have well and truly made a name for themselves across the punk scene in the midlands over the past year. From playing a number of sold-out shows across Worcester and Birmingham to supporting the likes of Press Club and The Wytches as well as having released their first EP, Sincere and Intense Conviction which was well-received by both fans and critics, The Earnest Spears have proven themselves to be one of punks hottest commodities in 2020.
Recorded at JT Soar in Nottingham, the band’s newest single Liar gives the listener a chance to delve into the minds of the four piece. Never ones to shy away from using their music to hammer home an important message, the band says that Liar is a collective result of the frustration the young musicians have felt towards our current political climate and the mindset that comes with the political divide across the country and the wider world.
Drawing on influences from punk powerhouses such as IDLES, Slaves, and Lady Bird, the band uses powerful guitars, a strong bassline, and hard-hitting drum beats to back up the powerful message behind their lyrics with an equally powerful and memorable melody.
The Earnest Spears had big plans for 2020, including a number of shows and festival slots but sadly those plans have been put on hold as venues across the country try to return to some sense of normality. In the meantime, as the boys wait to get back on the road they’re locked and loaded with a string of brand new singles ready to be released later this year, with each of them taking on ‘complex and confrontational anarchist-political themes’. Liar, as well as the bands 5 track EP Sincere and Intense Conviction, is available to stream on Spotify.
