Realtime International Film Festival (RTF)

Worcester welcomes the 9th Realtime International Film Festival (RTF), an independent film event that attracts global filmmakers and fosters artistic expression. After relocating from Kent, RTF is now aligned with the Worcester Festival, aiming to establish a vibrant centre for independent film. The festival showcases films honoured at prestigious events like Cannes, the Oscars, and the Africa Movie Academy Awards, and is rated among the Top 100 best-reviewed festivals.
Running from August 23-25, 2024, RTF will feature over 70 international filmmakers and 124 films across venues such as the Mockingbird Cinema and Swan Theatre. The festival thrives on collaboration, particularly connecting filmmakers from Africa, Asia, America, and the Caribbean with UK creatives.
RTF’s mission is to develop a creative economy that is equitable, collaborative, and profitable. It aims to boost the entertainment and tourism sectors in the Midlands by nurturing a dynamic creative economy for indie filmmakers. The festival also highlights Nollywood’s influence, enabling African filmmakers to showcase their work on platforms like Netflix and Amazon.
The festival includes the Realtime 20-hour Filmmaking Challenge, open to participants aged 6 and above. Contestants create short films in 20 hours, with top entries showcased at the closing event. The Deputy Mayor of Worcester will attend the closing ceremony on August 25, where the Midlands Indie Collective will be launched, and awards will be presented, including RTF’s Hourglass Awards. Themes will be available at 10:00 PM on August 18th. Submission deadline is 6:30 AM to qualify.

Themes will be available at 10:00 PM on August 21st. Submission deadline is 6:30 AM to qualify.

Participants can enter the challenge multiple times, as long as they start and finish within the designated period. Completed films should be emailed to rtfcurator@gmail.com. The top films will premiere simultaneously on August 25th at RTF’s closing ceremonies in both Africa, at Silverbird Cinemas in Lagos, Nigeria, and Europe, at the Swan Theatre in Worcester, UK.
