Join the Will Barnes Quartet this Autumn and Winter for the second leg of their ‘Source of the Severn’ tour, a musical journey steeped in the rugged beauty of Mid Wales and the Marches. Performing selections from their acclaimed album, this ensemble of top-tier jazz musicians will be accompanied by the live visual artistry of Erin Hughes, whose captivating display will bring the music to life in vivid, imaginative detail.
At the helm is Will Barnes on guitar, joined by James Batten on drums, Jack Gonsalez on piano, and Clovis Phillips on bass—an ensemble of seasoned players hailing from rural Wales. Together, they form a tight-knit group whose sound is deeply reflective of their remote surroundings. Drawing inspiration from bebop, post-bop, and contemporary jazz, their set blends original compositions with inventive takes on pop, rock, and jazz standards for an evening rich in improvisation and creativity.
Adding to this immersive experience, Erin Hughes will unveil nine original works inspired by the quartet’s music, crafted from her hand-marbled papers. These intricate collages echo the elegance of Pietre Dure, infusing the concert with a visual depth that perfectly complements the evocative soundscape. An evening of artistry in both sound and sight, this is a performance that promises to leave a lasting impression.
