A psychedelic odyssey through sound, time, and perception awaits as the iconic band returns to UK stages, celebrating their latest studio masterpiece, Relativity.
Hawklords, born in 1978 from the remnants of The Sonic Assassins by Robert Calvert and Dave Brock of Hawkwind fame, continue to expand the boundaries of the genre. Get ready to lose yourself in the sounds of the cosmos and rediscover your soul in a thrilling roller-coaster of pure space-rock & roll. With their 11th studio album, Relativity, the band offers a sonic journey that often feels as though it has tumbled through a wormhole from the classic ’70s era of space-rock and psychedelia. The album delves into the complexities of artificial intelligence, machine learning, and humanity’s uneasy relationship with technological evolution. As guitarist Jerry Richards explains, “It’s all about perspectives. Perception is shaped by where you stand when you observe what you see, hear, or feel. As Einstein said, ‘Everything is relative.’ This album reflects on our collective reality: what has been, what is, and what is yet to come.”
Since their revival in 2008, Hawklords have relentlessly toured the UK and Europe, cementing their legacy with every performance. The current line-up promises a dynamic live experience:
- Jerry Richards (Guitar & Vocals): A veteran of the UK’s free festival scene in the ’80s, Richards was lead guitarist and producer with Hawkwind from 1995 to 2000 and is a founding member of Hawklords.
- Dave Pearce (Drums): A member of Hawklords since 2010, Pearce is also part of British psych-rock legends The Bevis Frond.
- Mr Dibs (Bass & Vocals): Dibs, former bassist and vocalist for Hawkwind from 2007 to 2018, joined Hawklords in 2021.
Adding an extra dimension to the tour are The Arboretum, whose live performances are a hypnotic blend of psychedelic rock and stunning visuals. Their sound fuses electronic sequences with gritty industrial rhythms, shimmering guitars, and expansive vocals. The band, comprised of brothers Keith and Chris Trim, draws from themes of hope amidst dark, dystopian landscapes, creating a live experience that stimulates both the eyes and the ears. As Slap Mag recently noted, “Their music is a propulsive wave of psych rock, trance, and post-punk, with a highly imaginative back projection that mirrors the themes of each track.”
