Chris Wood is a resolute wordsmith whose music reflects his affection for the untold tales of the English-speaking populace. With subtle wit, he intertwines tradition with his own modern fables.
A self-taught instrumentalist, composer, and lyricist, Chris is a perpetual learner whose independent spirit permeates all his endeavors. Always forthright and unafraid to voice his thoughts, his songcraft is lauded for its precise clarity. He attributes his main inspiration to “Anon.”
His latest record, ‘So Much to Defend,‘ has garnered widespread critical acclaim, delving into topics such as grassroots football, the empty nest phase, swimming lessons, culinary expeditions, and notably, using the gecko as a metaphor for contemporary society.
“Hollow Point,” his haunting ballad recounting the tragedy of Jean Charles Menezez, earned him a BBC Folk Award (one of six he’s received) and firmly established Wood as a significant orator of England’s unofficial chronicles.
His collaborators span a wide spectrum, including Martin Carthy, Dizraeli, Billy Bragg, Andy Cutting, Andy Irvine, Karine Polwart, Jean Francois Vrod, The Imagined Village, Hugh Lupton, Martin Butler, and numerous others.
