Evesham Operatic and Dramatic Society (EODS) has been nominated by the National Operatic and Dramatic Association (NODA) for their May 2023 production, “Broadway and Beyond.” This marks their second consecutive nomination for Best Concert in District 5 of the NODA West Midlands Region, following their win in the same category for their 2022 production, “The Musical Alphabet.”
“Broadway and Beyond” represented EODS’ directorial debut for professional actor and former member, Daniel Callaghan. It was his way of giving back to the society that nurtured his passion for theatre. Both Daniel and the society are thrilled by the nomination and hopeful for another victory.
Following this success, EODS presented the well-received “Calendar Girls The Musical” in November 2023 and is currently deep in rehearsal for their May 2024 show, “Funny Girl.” This Broadway classic, famously brought to the screen by Barbra Streisand in 1968, tells the story of Fanny Brice, an unconventional performer who rises to fame in the Ziegfeld Follies.
The role of Fanny Brice will be portrayed by EODS newcomer Phoebe Smithies, a theatre graduate known for her performances with Phoenix Theatre Group. Her addition is celebrated by the society, highlighting their commitment to showcasing fresh young talent.
