“Drones and Tones”

Bretwalda, Moss Grotto, and Sons of Geometry
Bringing noise, ambient, and modular synth music to Worcester
Three eclectic artists will perform at The Firefly for “Drones and Tones” – a night of experimental music. The show will feature a mix of genres, including medieval industrial noise from Bretwalda, ambient post-rock from Moss Grotto, and modular synthesis from Sons of Geometry.
This follows the success of September’s Drones and Tones gig at Spin the Black Circle, which featured Moss Grotto, Bretwalda, and local electronic musician Inwards, alongside NYC-based Varsity Star. This time, Sons of Geometry, fresh from their modular synth set at Worcester Music Festival, join the bill.
Bretwalda fuses abrasive electronics, samplers, and tapes to explore medieval British history through industrial music. Their dark dubscapes blend medieval melodies with noise, post-punk, and techno influences. Active since 2018, they’ve performed extensively in Thailand, including guerilla street concerts. Two studio albums are (available on bandcamp), with a third on the way.
Moss Grotto, formed in December 2023, creates meditative ambient soundscapes that build into post-rock crescendos. The duo—Harry (guitar) and Jack (keys and modded tape player)—use everything from conventional instruments to found sounds and decaying tapes. They’re currently working on their new album Crockerland, a concept album inspired by a disastrous arctic expedition – which they bring to their atmospheric live shows, alongside tracks from their self-titled album.
Sons of Geometry are a modular synthesis duo, known for their semi-improvised sets that blend beats with experimental sounds. Their performances began within the Birmingham Modular Organisation (BMO) as well as the flourishing EMOM (Electronic Music Open Mic) scene. They now bring their boundary-pushing sounds to Worcester.
With its diverse lineup and cutting-edge performances, Drones and Tones aims to build a community of experimental music fans in Worcester.
