Hi everyone and welcome to the October edition of Slap Magazine. We are just back from the wonderful ‘Something Else in the Dean’ near Newent, Gloucestershire, to dive headlong into the Slap deadline, the last festival of a long season, marking the arrival of Autumn.
We really have been spoilt for choice this year, with so many local festivals, I couldn’t even begin to recall them all. It really has been a hectic schedule, but I guess that’s the way we like it...
In this issue of course we cover the Worcester Music Festival which, it has to be said, was a fantastic success as a spectacle. Tens of venues, hundreds of acts and thousands of revellers, with a little help from the weather, made this years event one of the best yet. Slap was just a small part of the extravaganza with our own Slap night at the Marrs Bar. It was pretty much a full house from early doors then one-in, one-out all evening, until our headline band Rhino and the Ranters wrapped things up around midnight. See our cover image of front man Ryan Webb taken by Sarah Lissiemore who was one of the official WMF photographers. The standard of photography this year has been incredible, I can’t wait to see the entries into the WMF photography competition. Last call to enter your images is Tuesday 4th October with the Awards evening and exhibition being held on 21st October at Worcester Arts Workshop.
Next year will be the 10th anniversary of the Worcester Music Festival, so just a youngster compared to the brilliant Stroud Fringe Festival, also featured between the covers of this issue, now has twenty years under it’s belt. Huge thanks to Geoffrey Head for bringing us the highlights from Stroud, it looks well worth keeping in the diary for next year...
October is so busy, not only have we added another page of listings this month, the arts pages are packed with news of exhibitions, workshops and activities. So please continue to support the local arts scene, it needs you more than ever...
